About MassHousing

MassHousing is an independent, self-supporting, not-for-profit public Agency created in 1966 to promote affordable rental and home ownership opportunities in Massachusetts. The Agency does not use taxpayer dollars; instead, MassHousing raises capital by selling bonds and lends the proceeds to low- and moderate-income homebuyers and homeowners, and to developers who build or preserve affordable and/or mixed-income rental housing. Since its inception, MassHousing has provided more than $17 billion for affordable housing. HomeOwnership

MassHousing promotes affordable and sustainable homeownership opportunities for families with modest incomes. All of our mortgage loans feature 30-year terms, fixed interest rates and low down payment requirements. All MassHousing loans are serviced in-house, and the hands-on approach of our servicing team has consistently resulted in delinquency and foreclosure rates lower than those of conventional lenders.

In addition to our first mortgage programs, MassHousing also provides financing to help homeowners remove lead paint, repair a failing septic system and make needed repairs to their properties. Learn more at www.masshousing.com/homeownership.

Rental Housing

MassHousing provides financing and oversight to rental communities where at least 20% of units are maintained as affordable for area renters. We work diligently to ensure that these communities remain physically and financially strong, and that residents enjoy a high quality of life. Unlike other commercial lenders, we take a proactive approach to fostering strong communities among the people who live in the housing we finance. We facilitate educational programs and activities for residents. We also offer a wealth of trainings, workshops and conferences for the property managers that handle the day-to-day operations.
